Peel Ski Club – disabled skiing opportunities
Peel Ski Club – disabled skiing opportunities
The Peel Ski Club was formed to provide skiing opportunities for disabled serving and retired police officers and police staff from all UK forces. Now family and friends with disabilities are able to take part in the Club's biannual holidays.
With snow across the Alps it is timely to look ahead to the next ski season. Skiing is one of the most exhilarating sports in the world. Equipment and techniques can be adapted to enable people suffering from disabilities to take part and do things that that they never thought possible.
The Club would like to gauge the level of interest in an adaptive skiing holiday in mid January 2008 in either Austria or France before making final decisions. Once likely numbers have been obtained it will be possible to properly estimate costs and then seek firm commitments from skiers.
The Club is keen to hear from disabled serving and retired police officers and police staff from all UK forces who would be interested in taking part in a ski holiday in January 2008. Personnel with disabled family and friends (including children) suffering from disabilities who would like to participate are also encouraged to contact the Club.
Able bodied skiers are welcome to assist. Before the holiday they must have attended a Disability Snowsport UK (DSUK) awareness course and completed a log book signing off their competence as adaptive ski helpers. Current members of the British Ski Club for the Disabled (Grade 3s and above) are particularly welcome to make contact together with qualified BASI ski instructors.
Please send expressions of interest by 9 March 2007 to Jan Plant (MPS SCD12) via e-mail Janice.Plant@met.pnn.police.uk or telephone 020 7230 8879.
