About the NDPA

The NDPA was formed in September 2004 as the result of a recognised need to bring together and co-ordinate efforts, nationally, to ensure disabled police officers and police staff were treated fairly and consistently throughout the country.

Alan Robinson was the inaugural Chair of the 'MPS DSA' (Met Disabled Staff Association) worked tirelessly with Paul O'Keeffe, who was Deputy Chair of the MPS DSA and Scott Westbrook, who is the serving Chair of the NDPA.

The meeting was set for September 2004 at New Scotland Yard where those attended formed the committee. Extensive work has continued to ensure the successful formation as it is today. Most of the driving force in the first year has been Scott Westbrook.

The association continues to widen its reach to include every police force and like organisation in the .  With a potential membership of over 200,000 the association is very aware of the massive task ahead.  The committee is made up from elected members from each force association or network.  The committee elect the executive for 3 year posts.

The NDPA have won the support of organisations such as the Home Office, ACPO, The Superintendents' Association, Police Federation and The Disability Rights Commission.  The NDPA is now recognised as a serious and representative association who are approached for consultation and presentations at all levels.

The NDPA offer free to all the use of the NDPA Forum as both a place for members to call for help but also as a resource to HR managers and employers.
